Further progress on the HSc low-poly
Still missing quite a few parts, but it looked complete enough to get a feel for the shape and size, both in SecondLife and VRChat.
Holding it in my hand(s), there are definitely parts that are over-engineered for the size of that pocket pistol, the extractor probably doesn’t need to be modeled at all and the chamber walls are far too detailed, normal mapping to the rescue. The sight picture isn’t too bad even on my low resolution headset.
I’ve also done more diagrams and scale tests for some of my building ideas for Froznovia.
(yes, the novel that has no illustrations and certainly doesn’t need 3D models. But it helps me think)
God I hate Summer
I hate Summer! Why is it so unbearably hot?
This is all I’ve managed to do lately, between real life and trying to sleep the worst hours of the day off. Some of the boring and unglamorous work of making the Mauser HSc truly low-poly.
For what I can see it is going to come down a little for a few days? It isn’t even July yet…
Caps and gun that fuck
I managed to turn around the peaked cap attempt from last Friday and the two variants I’ve come up with… Simply fuck. I mean seriously, look at that. I’m never going to look this good ever again, my avatar has officially peaked (ouch that pun…).
Spent some time on the inner workings of the Mauser HSc. I’m doing way more than I need to. It’s the same issue I’ve always had with putting a gun model together, and also the reason why I never completed any in 20+ years. I’m trying to get everything to fit together, and a lot of those parts I don’t have measurements for, so I have to eyeball between photos, diagrams, and World of Guns screenshots. The point isn’t to aim for perfect accuracy, but to have roughly everything that is potentially visible, occupying the space.
Then I’ll simplify it all to its bare minimum.
For example here, the magazine is too low, the feed lips should surround the part of the bolt face that is used to push the next round into the chamber.
The ejection port… I thought I could get away with a boolean, but it looks disgusting… I’ll fix it. The other side also need some grinding to fit the safety lever.
